MEETING TIPS

1. Take meetings seriously and do real work

2. Don’t let people digress from the topic

3. Outline tasks and assign deadline so members know how to follow-up

4. Consider using technology to allow individuals to anonymously express opinions

5. Make sure you have the information you need for decision making before the meeting starts

6. Keep good records on what works and doesn’t work and include these in minutes

PREPARATION FOR A MEETING

1. Define the purpose of the meeting and the outcomes

2. Determine who should be there

3. Reserve a room, appropriate equipment

4. Decide on appropriate set up

5. Develop an agenda

6. Distribute the agenda prior to the meeting

7. Inform participants of any necessary preparation

What if…?

At a meeting you notice a person sneezes into his hands. Five minutes later your boss brings the person over to introduce him to you. He extends his hand to shake hands.

What would you do?

  1. Consideration
Who is affected and how are they affected?

The Person - Confused, embarrassed

You - Unsure, nervous

Your Boss - Surprised, angry

Your Company - Negatively affected

      • "I’m so embarrassed. I just sneezed on my hand. As soon as I get back from the restroom…"

  1. Refine as necessary
You decide that after shaking hands, you will immediately excuse yourself to go to the restroom and wash your hands.

At an important client meeting a cell phone begins ringing. After the second ring everyone realizes it is your phone. You would:
